Considering Solar in Jackson County? Here’s What You Need to Know:

Solar opportunities vary by utility in Jackson County. Alliant Energy is currently the most solar-friendly, offering full retail net metering—but only through 2026. Other utilities, like MVEC, MMEU, PMEU, and BMU, do not offer net metering, instead crediting solar exports at reduced rates or offering limited bill credits.

While no local utilities offer direct solar rebates, all customers can benefit from the 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit (through the end of 2025), 100% Iowa solar sales tax exemption, and 5-year property tax exemption.

Thinking about going solar?
We recommend:

  • Installing with Alliant before 2027 to lock in current net metering rates
  • Contacting your utility to ask about interconnection, system size limits, and credit-back policies
  • Taking full advantage of state and federal incentives while they last

Federal Tax Credits for Solar Energy Projects

Businesses, nonprofits, and local governments can take advantage of generous federal tax credits when installing solar:

🔆 Investment Tax Credit (ITC):
Get 30% back on eligible system costs—like solar panels, batteries, and installation—through an upfront tax credit. Nonprofits and public entities can receive the credit as a direct payment.

🔆 Production Tax Credit (PTC):
Earn 2.75¢ per kilowatt-hour of solar electricity generated for 10 years. Ideal for large-scale, high-output systems.

Projects must meet labor standards and use mostly new equipment to qualify. Bonus credits are available for systems using U.S.-made materials or serving low-income or energy communities.
